Death's Touch by goatlord51 Death's Touch by goatlord51
Sooo, I got my 4000th page hit a couple days and I'd like to thank everyone who came by and peeped my pics. Happy Halloween everyone and thanks for looking!

And now about the picture, I'm still playing around with anime themes. This time I was trying out the worm's-eye perspective. It's supposed to make the character look more imposing.

Drawn in pencil then colored in Photoshop.

insane perspective! :wow:
great details, the high contrast causes a lot of movement and danger in there. Masterpiece!

Thank you. I think I figured out the secret formula: dramatic perspective + dramatic lighting = dramatic picture :D

To be honest, I think the hands are great - the character is clearly young, but the hands are older, lined, sickly... they ooze decay (which I'm guessing is the whole point of the 'Deaths Touch' reference. It wouldn't be as effective if it wasn't for the contrast - great job!

Thank you very much. I was kinda going for a gangrene look on the hands but from the other comments I don't know if I achieved the look I wanted.

The perspective and mood are very good, but sadly the hands, that are the main focus of the pic,are the worst part of it.Overall good work.

Hmm, is there something I could fix about the hands to make them look better?

Hands are a very difficult part to draw. The best thing you can do is use some reference, take a picture of your hands in that position and try to draw them. Some fingers are posed in a strange position and some falanges are too marked.Just my 2 cents to improve the pic!!

Agreed on the hands. Drawing female hands in some ways can be a little easier because you don't draw as many creases and corners as with drawing male hands because obviously women have softer hands. I've been drawing for 30 years and I still have trouble myself. Best idea is to do what CamaraSketch said. Take pictures of the hand pose you want and use that. I always carry a digital camera with me and it comes in hand if I'm having trouble getting the look I want. It's a good investment.

Obviously the finger is broken into three segments. When drawing female hands I usually use circles and with male hands I use blocks or cylinders. On this picture you could also use the "liquify" tool on Photoshop to fix the fingers, smooth them out a little bit.

But I didn't want to draw beautiful female hands. I wanted twisted-ugly undead hands. I've taken human anatomy classes as part of my nursing training and I know the basic bones, muscles, and tendons that make up the hand (or at least I have anatomy textbooks to reference). I chose to make the hands look ugly. I think maybe I didn't make them ugly enough? Maybe if I added in some gore or cut them up a bunch, then would it look like I intended?

You can still make them look twisted and gory while still making them look like female hands. In this picture, the hands look more masculine than they should. But as I tell a lot of people all that matters is if you like it.
